Ugly Betty's Getting a Facelift

So we all really know Ugly Betty is actually pretty, but she is being held back by bad glasses, bad clothes, and over sized braces. All she really needs is a little help and guidance. My Ugly Betty is being held back by thick yellowing varnish, ugly hardware, and drawers that look like a little girl had a hay day with fingernail polish and glitter.

Many hours of stripping the varnish off (sanding was not an option on this old girl), and just plain hard work.

The inside of the drawers were so bad that needed a face lift too, so some (Caribbean Breeze) paint will be a little surprise when you go to open the drawers.

Well you can't give Ugly Betty a face lift and forget all about her backside, so a little flash of color so nothing is left unnoticed.

Drawers and top are stained, now it is time for stenciling!

I still have to stencil the top and do a little sanding but she is almost done! I am hoping by tonight I will have it done.

March 14/ Today's Projects

It may not be pretty, but after the fumes I dealt with yesterday with the furniture stripper I figured it should be safety first!

Yesterday I stained the top of this desk and it's drawers, so today's project is to paint the desk. 

I am going to be stenciling over the stain and the stain will be a backdrop so the stencils will pop out. I can see the finished product in my head, so I am excited to get moving on this so everyone else can see what has been swimming in my brain.

Here is Ugly Betty, before she turns into Beautiful Betty. Getting the thick shiny lacquer finish off this is a lot more work than I thought but it will be worth it in the end, hence the protective gear.

I dreamt about painting furniture all night last night in my sleep, so I am excited to get into the garage like a mad scientist and create today.

Today's Must Have Finds

Ok Ok, I officially have too many projects going at once, but I couldn't help this one, no really I couldn't, a deal is a deal that is a deal! My daughter says that the first thing I need do is admit  that I have a problem, (addicted to furniture). I say I admit I have a problem, but I do not want a cure! I love furniture!
My husband just helped me bring home 2 dressers, a desk and a night stand.
 The desk does not belong to the set, but has the same style. I have more pieces than will fit in the garage right now, so they are throughout my house  until I can get to them.
I am not allowing myself to look at craigeslist or thrift stores until I get  some of these projects done and sold. Really I mean it! (This time)

White Cabinet Is Finished!

It Is finally done!!!

My plain cabinet is now a beauty.

It took a few different stencils to get this arrangement, and 3 hours worth of work.

I think it is charming now. I am just waiting for the handles to arrive.

60's Nightstands Revamped into Modern Shabby Chic

I love these little nightstands, I think they turned out charming. I did not do the full shabby chic thing on these, because I really enjoy the clean lines, I think it works well with the 60's style. I think they would still be cute shabby chic with sanding and staining, but I think I will leave them like this unless I get feedback say otherwise.  

If you do want to leave feedback on any of my pieces I would love that, positive or things I could improve on.
