Mahogany Lowboy Dresser

This dresser is solid mahogany, but the finish on it is in really bad shape, there is going to be a lot of elbow grease to make this one come to life again. The pictures really can't show how bad the finish looks in person.

Hardware removed, now it is time to put on the stripper to remove all the shiny varnish.

This is what the finish looks like on top before I strip it, scratched up and beaten up.

First coat of stripper worked ok, but I am going to have to do more than one coat to get this off. In the end it took 3 coats plus a lot of srubbing.

It looks kind of rough, but now I just have to wait until tomorrow to sand and get a smooth finish. I still need to strip down the drawers.

I painted the body of the dresser a creamy white and then decided to do a little duck egg blue and hand painted on some vines

This is after all of the drawers were stripped of there varnish, sanded, stained and the clear waxed. A lot of hard strength into that part.

The top and sides are also clear waxed to protect the mahogany and caulk paint, and the whole thing is slightly distressed.

Mahogany Nightstand

This is a cute little nightstand that goes with the lowboy, and tallboy dresser. The varnish is flaking off badly, and needs a total redo. I want to keep some of the mahogany and paint the rest.

I stripped the varnish off the top and on the drawers, and sanded lightly any other varnish that was flaking off.

I put a generous coat of dark wax on the top and the drawers and buffed it out. The hardware is going to get a shot of new paint, antique pewter, but I wanted to take pictures while the sun was out, so I just plunked the old hardware on as is.

Now it is finished with clear wax, and redone hardware.

Petite Tallboy

This is what I call my petite tallboy, it has the tallboy look, but it is only about 4 1/2 ft tall.
It is real mahogany, and a high quality made piece of furniture. Right now it is way too shiny and looks like grandma's old dresser, well it was someone's grandma's at one point. This petite tallboy is going to look like a real lady after I get done with her. First step take the hardware off and strip the varnish off the drawers and top. The body is going to be painted, but you will just have to wait and see what color.

You can see how much the stain had faded by looking at how dark the stain remained under the hardware.

This is what real mahogany looks like without varnish and stain. It took some sanding to get all the residual stain off. All this needs now is a clear wax to bring out the true color, who wants to ruin it with another colored stain?

So here it is painted. It is hard to get the real color to pop out when taking a picture in the garage, but it is called Duck Egg blue chalk paint.

I waxed the top and drawers with a dark wax. With the dresser being out of real mahogany I just had to leave some of it natural and not paint the whole dresser.
The hardware is being painted right now, so this is it without.

For some reason the blue in the picture is not coming out very well, but it is more blue than it is gray.

Yep this girl is keeping this piece!
